Need to vent, but not where anyone knows it's you
Updated
Sometimes you just need to say it. Not to fix anything, not to get advice, only to get it out of your head. The hard part is that the people around you are often the people it is about, or the people you least want to worry.
Wanting to vent anonymously is not hiding. It is a very normal way of saying the honest version first, before you are ready to say it to anyone who knows you.
Why getting it out helps
Putting a feeling into words, even rough ones, tends to make it smaller and easier to think about. Keeping everything in usually does the opposite: it gets louder, and it starts to feel like the only thing that is true.
Private ways to vent
- Write it all down, as messily as you like, then keep it or delete it. Nobody has to read it for it to help.
- Record a voice note to yourself and listen back later, or never.
- Keep a journal with a lock or a passcode, on paper or on your phone.
- Put it into something physical: a run, loud music, drawing, cleaning your room.
- Talk to people who don't know you in real life, in a space built to be anonymous and kind.
What a safe anonymous space looks like
- You never have to give your real name, and it is not linked to your other accounts.
- People you know can't find you there, and it doesn't share your posts anywhere else.
- It is moderated, with clear rules against cruelty and against encouraging anyone to get hurt.
- Real people reply, and there are crisis lines on hand if things get heavy.
- There is a quick way to leave the page if someone walks in.
When venting isn't enough
Venting helps with a hard day. If it is every day, or the same weight keeps coming back, it is worth telling someone who can do more than listen: a school counsellor, a doctor or an adult you trust. Venting first can make that conversation easier, because you already know what you want to say.
When to get more help
Talk to an adult you trust, a doctor or a helpline if:
- The same feelings come back most days for weeks.
- You can't keep up with school, sleep, eating or friends.
- Someone is hurting you, or you don't feel safe at home.
- You have thoughts of hurting yourself or not wanting to be here. Please reach out to a helpline or an adult you trust now.
You don't have to work it out alone
Avelune is an anonymous place to vent and be heard by people who get it. No real name, replies from real people, and moderation that keeps it kind. When a word needs weight, wrap it in two stars for bold (**like this**) or one for italic (*like this*), in posts, replies and messages. The Leave this page button on every help page swaps the tab to an ordinary page straight away, and members can add a quick exit button to every page in Settings.
Avelune is peer support, not a clinical service. This page is general information, not medical advice.
